Threads Of Time Brings Up Memories Of Classic JRPGs In New Announcement Trailer

Time travel has been a common idea explored in various science fiction and fantasy stories. In the coming Threads of Time by Riyo games, it is sure to take center stage. The Canadian, retro focused, indie game developer has just announced their first game at the Tokyo Game Show. Threads of Time is a turn-based role playing game inspired by classics such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, according to the game’s website

The announcement trailer showcased a few different time periods visited by the player’s party, narrated by a figure observing a clock like mosaic. First was 12,000,000 BC, in which the heroes navigate the wilderness and skies around a large island, flying on the backs of dragons. Second was 2400 AD, in which a new individual dove from the roofs of a futuristic metropolis, to the darker, underbelly of the city, complete with neon signs and tight alleys.Third was an apocalypse, in which robots seemed to have wiped out most life. Finally, 1000 AD with soaring airships against the setting sun, followed by a fight between the party and a large ice wolf creature.

The game seems to possess an overworld, as well as towns and dungeons that can be explored in more depth. While the characters are displayed in pixel art as they move in combat and throughout the world. The backgrounds and the overworld have a more classic art style.

The website also showcases a bit of info on the different party members, and what time period they’re from. For example, the protagonist Rye is a Time Knight with a mysterious unknown past who comes from 1000 AD. Another is Luna, an adventurous mage with a penchant for fire, and she’s from 10,000 BC. It seems the full party will consist of seven characters, with two still unrevealed.

Threads of Time will be available on Xbox and Steam, players looking forward to going back in time can wishlist now.
