Moon Moon Moon, an indie gaming studio, is working on a unique songwriting-adventure narrative titled, The Worst Grim Reaper.
The game seems to narrate the life of Sebastian, a Grim Reaper who just wants to experience more of what life has to offer. Tasked with collecting the souls of those who will soon pass on, he daydreams of one day touring the world and pursuing his dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. Every time he’s off daydreaming, his little lantern companion, Lux, is always there to quickly bring him back to reality. But when something goes wrong, the duo will embark on a secret mission to fix their mistake before anyone can find out. Players will accompany Sebastian and Lux on their comedic adventure to protect their reputation as reapers, or else be forever known as the Worst Grim Reaper ever.
To get a better understanding of what can be expected, take a look at this test footage Moon Moon Moon posted from The Worst Grim Reaper.
The short video seems to showcase a possible opening scene where players are first introduced to Sebastian, who has broken his brakes and fallen off his bike. A crow soon lands on his back and steals an important scroll (possibly a list of souls in need of reaping) and takes off. He walks on, eventually discovering what appears a gopher who has picked up Lux. Each event is delivered through song by an invisible narrator. Through his lyrics, players will learn gameplay controls as well as directions needed to continue exploring the world.
Though there has not been an official trailer revealed yet, you can take a look at this early draft teaser for the game posted on the studio’s YouTube cha Channel.
The Worst Grim Reaper is currently still in development, with no official release date yet, however, the team did showcase a bit of gameplay footage during PlayNYC 2018. In a 2018 interview with one of the game’s developers, Mark Benis, the team revealed that are aiming for a PC release but would like to possibly expand to include a console release.
Just can’t wait? Well, the studio recently announced that they’ve begun a partnership with Bose AR and Playcrafting on an interactive mobile game, The Worst Grim Reaper: Soul Mates, planned to launch tomorrow, on July 26th, 2019. The mobile title will feature the comedic duo as they follow you around narrating your experience through song.
