Fans of the Nintendo DS classic, The World Ends With You, were ecstatic when it was announed that it was being remade for the Nintendo Switch earlier this year. Now the excitement continues, for earlier today, Square Enix officially announced that the game, titled The World Ends With You Final Remix, will be releasing in Japan this fall in September.

Along with the trailer, Square Enix also announced collectors edition, dubbed the It’s A Wonderful Bag Limited Edition, a Square Enix store exclusive that is available to pre-order at their Japanese website. It will include a physical copy of the game, a mini soundtrack, an art book, a stylus pen, acrylic stand, a silver foil sticker, some puffy stickers, and a bag. This version of the game is priced at ¥17,000, or $155.
Originally released in 2007 in Japan, and in North America in 2008, The World Ends With You was a welcome addition to the DS library as it quickly became one of the most popular Japanese Role-Playing games’s on the handheld system. At the time, it was acclaimed for its ingenuity, utilizing the DS stylus touch mechanics in tandem with the role-playing gameplay. In addition, the art style was widely praised with the in-game world being based on Shibuya, a real life ward in Tokyo, Japan, as the backdrop for the games scenery. The game was later ported to mobile devices, titled The World Ends With You Solo Remix, on iOS in 2012 and Android in 2014 respectively. With it came some new additions, such as playing with other players via wireless connection, and using social media applications for dynamic non-player character interactions.
Despite the announcement just being for a release date in Japan, the chances of Square Enix bringing the game to the west are very high. The World Ends With You is still discussed among gamers as one of the best role-playing games in the 2000s, so keep an eye out for a western release date.
The World Ends With You will release for the Nintendo Switch on September 27, 2018 in Japan.
