The Witcher Movie Coming In 2017

A feature film based on The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski is set to premiere in theaters worldwide in 2017. In a press release from Polish company Platige Films they announced they have teamed up with the Sean Daniel Company, producers of The Mummy franchise and the remake of Ben-Hur, to co-produce the project.

The film will star Geralt of Rivia and will be based on themes from Sapkowski’s original short stories ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Lesser Evil’ from ‘The Last Wish’ collection. The film will act as an introduction to the world of The Witcher and is intended to be the first in a series.

Oscar nominee Tomasz Bagiński (The Cathedral) of Platige Films is on board the project as director. Bagiński has directed the two opening cinematics for the first two games in the series as well as the teaser trailer and ‘The Trail’ cinematic from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. Thania St. John (Grimm, Chicago Fire) is on as screenwriter. Jarosław Sawko and Piotr Sikora of Platige Films are on as producers alongside Sean Daniel and Jason Brown from The Sean Daniel Company.

No announcement was made of any actors attached to the film.

Devlopers of The Witcher video games CD Projekt Red appear to have no involvement in the making of the films.
