After what seems like an eternity, CD Projekt Red has finally announced that the long awaited release date for the next generation updates of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The update will come next month on December 14, 2022, just in time for Christmas, and will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC. The update will of course come with all of the major bells and whistles that is expected with a next generation update such as the much beloved ray tracing, faster loading times, faster frames per second, and the additional content from the Netflix live action series.
For those who already own the base PlayStation 4 and Xbox versions, you’ll get the upgrade for the game. This includes owners for both the regular base game and the Complete Edition, which has the game and all of the additional DLC and Expansions. If you don’t own a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/Series S, or a PC that can run with all of those upgrades, CD Projekt Red states that those versions will still receive “numerous improvements” that will enhance the overall experience. This also includes the Nintendo Switch version, which came out in 2019, four years after it initially released. It’s important to note that this update will not be releasing at the same time as the next generation update on December 14 as no official date was given for it.
The company stated that there will be more information to share next week during a scheduled Twitch stream, where they’ll hopefully offer some more concrete information than what was already shared. No date was given, but they’ll more than likely reveal one very soon. The next generation upgrade release for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been well documented as the company has been trying to get this particular patch out for couple of years now. The update was initially announced in 2020 but was never given a specified time frame. The update then received a time frame in 2021 for the same year, which came and went before being postponed indefinitely. Now we have a date, which is less than a month from now, and we can’t wait to play as Geralt for a one millionth time.
