It’s a very special week for CD Projekt Red. The company is celebrating the seventh anniversary of arguably their most successful title in their entire history, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game launches seven years ago on May 19, 2015, and went onto become lauded as one of the greatest video games of all time. To coincide with this special moment, the company has announced that the long awaited next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will launch later this year during Q4, which is generally during the holidays.
The timeframe for the next-gen update was previously in question as the company announced just this past April that they had to delay it with no new release window. CD Projekt Red had moved the entire process to their own in-house team instead of outsourcing it to Saber Interactive. This worried some that the production was either stalled or something worse. The company did not state why they moved everything back to their own studio, but it looks like that worry was all for naught as we now have a viable timeframe for the release.
Since this is a next-gen update, owners of the title on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/Series S will be impacted the most with all of the new bells and whistles that come with it. However, those on PC will also get some new features such as ray-tracing, faster load times, and an upgraded visual for those using 4K resolution. Of course PC players have been using mods and other enhancements to create their own experience for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for years so this might not seem like such a stretch to the community. Regardless, any reason to start a new playthrough is a good one. The Witcher 3: Complete Edition will launch sometime in Q4 2022 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC.
