A new ghost hunting game dropped an official announcement trailer earlier this morning, revealing a sci-fi extraction experience. That Which Remains can be played solo or with up to four other players, where they are know as Relics from an older time period.
Players have been conscripted by Entitech to extract Enticine, a liquefied trauma that helps run their utopia. Their task is to survive as many days possible to extract Enticine across space and time from an invasive species that the company calls Neurospatial Parasitic Entities. In other terms, ghosts.
To extract Enticine, players will enter contaminated zones. They will need to search for signs of ghosts by noting down clues they find such as EMF signals, temperature changes, spirit box responses, illusions, ghost orbs, and many more ghostly signs. One interesting feature of the spirit box is a mechanic that lets players communicate with fallen teammates, giving dead players a chance to warn their teammates or cause more chaotic fun.
The game will feature a proximity chat and walkie-talkies, enabling players to communicate when farther away in a similar fashion to Phasmophobia. However, these entities will not make extracting their Enticine easy for players. Some can posses them, resist their tools, hurl objects, and interact with the environment in a violent fashion.
The official announcement trailer shows the futuristic hub where players will return to after finishing an extraction. The game highlights the various environments from decaying buildings to abandoned arcades. There are daily quotas for players to meet and a variety of tools to help them capture entities.
One of the best ways to describe the game is a mix of Phasmophobia and Lethal Company mechanics. Though players have a little bit more power in their ghost hunting extractions like they’re a Ghostbuster.
That Which Remains will have a demo coming to Steam’s Next Fest this upcoming October. The store page does show that the game may come out for early access though no set date has been revealed. For now, it is one sci-fi hunting experience that players can look forward to.
