The Turing Test Now Available

According to a press release from gamasutra, Square Enix Collective’s The Turing Test is now available for Windows and Xbox One. The Turing Test was one of the games funded by Square Enix’s project called “The Square Enix Collective.” The program dedicated themselves to funding and giving feedback to potential independent titles. The press release states that the, “Square Enix Collective has helped independent developers raise over $1 million of crowdfunding to date.”

To coencide with The Turing Test’s release, Square Enix Collective has released a launch trailer which can be seen below:

The game centers around an engineer named Ava Turing. She is on a mission to uncover the truth behind strange occurrences at the research base on Jupiter’s moon, Europa. Armed with her Energy Manipulation Tool (or EMT,) she must solve puzzles by transferring power from one object to another. Square claims that players will be “powering up and taking control of artificially intelligent machines, manipulating giant structures and solving complex tasks” with this ability.

The Turing Test was the product of a joining of two studios. The UK-based studios Deco Digital and Bevel Studios, best known for their first person puzzle game, Pneuma: Breath of Life, joined together to form Bulkhead Interactive.

The game has been met with a positive critical reception from publications such as brashgames and Twinfinite. Other publications such as IGN, find the game fascinating, if not a little derivative of other titles such as Valve’s Portal series or Jonathan Blow’s The Witness. The publication awarded The Turing Test with a 7.0. A quote from the aforementioned review can be seen below:

While it never reaches the originality and heights of its inspirations, The Turing Test delivers a interesting world with one heck of a twist.

The Turing Test is available now on PC and Xbox One for the price of $19.99.
