A launch trailer for The Stone of Madness, developed by The Game Kitchen, was released yesterday, and players are able to purchase and play the game. The game is playable on PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, and the Nintendo Switch, which also includes a special edition version. The Game Kitchen developers have also created other games such as Blasphemous and Blasphemous 2. The launch trailer came out yesterday, but the game was officially released on January 28th of this year.
The Stone of Madness is a story-filled tactical RPG game. According to the YouTube description, “Players will use the combined skills and resources of five prisoners to face their fears, uncover the mysteries of their capture in the Monastery, and ultimately escape. Manage the prisoner’s mental health by using a system of character progression and regression.”
The story that The Stone of Madness takes place in 1799 in the bowels of a Spanish Inquisition monastery in the Pyrenees. Players can play from five characters such as Leonora Guzmán, Agnes Santos, Alfredo Martin, Amelia Exposito, and Eduardo De Rojas, and each character has their own unique story to tell while escaping the monestary, as well as their own unique set of skills. Players will also be able to switch between the five characters.
One of the characters, Alfredo Matin, is a priest who was falsely incarcerated for trying to expose the corruption of the monastery. He has some abilities such as using his lamp to light the way of corridors, his wise skills to discover any secrets, and he can dress as a priest in disguise.
Players must also be warned as well that there is mature content within this game. The warning on the Steam page from one of the developer reads, “One of the player characters will self harm if they kill an enemy. Killing is not required so it is possible to never trigger this. There is one brief, mostly covered sexual encounter the player will discover as part of the plot.”
