Well, The Sinking City was supposed to come out on March 21. The game had showed off a small gameplay trailer before its release, advocating how it would hold nobody’s hand on how to play the game and players would have no right or wrong ways to go about it. How if you wanted to make an arrest on someone and ruin their lives, you would need a really good reason for that.
But The Sinking City had mysteriously disappeared from Steam, and a video came out from the developers Frogwares about how they were delayed the game’s release. This was both to give some “breathing room” for players as other big titles were coming out during the same time, and also giving the developers some time to optimize the game. They gave it a new release date for the summer.
But to tide over fans and followers of the game, Frogwares decided to share some more gameplay. But instead of a trailer, it’s more of a gameplay highlight with developer commentary:
The video starts off with the player character, Detective Charles Reed, meeting up with a very fancy man Mr. Throgmorton. Who also happens to be more of an ape-man that a human. But he’s given a task to solve a case. And in the video, the game shows how much the player has to be aware of where to go. Normally, when given a quest, the game would put a marker over the location needed to go for that quest, but in this? The player needs to have the address and look for it on the map, utilizing street names and other locations.
The gameplay shows more of the detective side of things as Detective Reed continues to sleuth around and piece together clues. But it does show off his supernatural abilities which allows him to uncover certain things, identities, and the order in which a crime happened. But there’s a cost to Reed’s abilities, and that they’re draining and cause him to lose more of his sanity.
The video only shows the investigation, as the developers want to keep Reed’s approach to Throgmorton about his findings a secret. So players will have to discover what happens next on their own.
The Sinking City will be coming out for PC, PS4, and XBox One on June 27, 2019.
