The Sinking City Shows Detective Gameplay Ahead of March Release

The upcoming investigative, horror title The Sinking City has released what will most likely be the final trailer ahead of its release this March. The gameplay trailer introduces the character in more depth, Charles Reed, and gives a better look at the decaying 1920s city of Oakmont, Massachusetts. From the mind of the horror-fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft, The Sinking City delves into darkness, evil entities, and terror. Check out the trailer below:

Frogwares’ latest trailer for the game shows off Charles’ personality even more and how he can explore Oakmont on foot, by boat, or even in a diving suit. He must shed some light on what exactly is plaguing the minds of those that live there and the forces’ motivations. The war veteran and private investigator will be fighting his own mental demons as he battles monsters and questions individuals. The developers have “put the detective experience first” with “zero hand-holding” from the start of the game. They discuss in the gameplay trailer that there will not even be any straight-forward objectives on the map for the players to follow.

This system will allow players a huge amount of freedom in what to do first and who to accuse when it comes to vile acts. But there will be some help available with a sort of back log of information. Every piece of evidence collected will be put into Charles’ case book for later review. These pieces of evidence can be obvious or may need some heightened sense of perception in players’ surroundings. While there will be some strange occurrences happening in Oakmont, Charles will be able to unveil some supernatural clues. One of these skills honed in on is called “retro-cognition,” which gives a visual representation of what happened in an area in the past. Frogwares also reveals that the Mind Palace feature will be making a return from their previous sleuth games, but in The Sinking City there will be “no right or wrong answers, just different shades of black.”

But players cannot solely rely on their own skills and must reach out to other locals, police, and institutions to get to the bottom of what is going on. The Sinking City will launch on the Steam Store, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 21. Check out our previous article discussing the story behind the game.
