Earlier this month, EA announced the upcoming expansion pack for Sims 4 titled For Rent. The main feature for the pack is the ability for players to be able to control a Sim and become a property manager. Today, the official Sims YouTube channel dropped a trailer showing off the first look at gameplay.
Narrated by the townies’ former property manager, the gameplay trailer elaborates on what exactly a property manager can do. Firstly, the property manager will need to create a space to rent out. Players can renovate a large house into an apartment building, or create their own residency from scratch. The more polished the area is, the happier the tenants will be, leading to less problems in the community and a better unit rating. Higher Unit Ratings mean more potential tenants will apply so players can have more options for who moves in. Viewing applicants’ details allows the player to make the best choice for their unit. Keeping tenants happy prevents the possibility of a Tenant Revolt.
If your tenants are not paying their rent on time, players can finally take the role of a “Repo-Man”, a NPC that vacuums a Sim’s belongings in their residence if they haven’t paid the bills in a long time. Players can also make the difficult decision to evict a tenant if they are not following the unit rules and have a backlog of overdue payments, or choose to give the tenant a second chance.
Using a handy dandy tool, players can manage the rental unit through adjusting rent cost, rent paid per day, lease length, and rules for the unit, such as banning social events and ghosts. Players can also select which rooms are available for rent, and any shared areas for tenants to relax and meet their neighbors.
Property managers can also help the tenants build a relationship with each other by hosting social events. Players can gather their residents to have dinner, light lanterns, or just have a nice chat!
The Sims 4: For Rent releases December 7, 2023, on PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation systems.
