One of the most prolific developers in the video game industry is back an apparently ready to go for 2023. Japanese developer Sunsoft, through Noisy Pixel, has announced their second-ever livestream event, the ably named Sunsoft is Back Two. The first ever Sunsoft is Back took place last year in August, which was the studio’s first ever major type of event and the first time in several years where they revealed some new titles based off of their older catalog. The event will take place on their official YouTube channel next week on April 19, 2023. The page currently has a premiere set up for those who want to wait the full seven days on the site.

As we already mentioned earlier, Sunsoft had an event their first event the previous Summer during virtual week, in which the event was hosted by a virtual avatar called Sunsoft Nosuke. In this event, they revealed three titles, one of which was brand new release while the other two were re-releases of long-forgotten titles. The first was Ikki Unite, a roguelike title and a spin-off of the original 1985 Ikki and supports up to 16 players at once in order to defend the farmland from monsters. The other two were re-releases of Gimmick and Ufouria: The Saga.
Sunsoft has been a major force in the video game industry for the better part of 45 years. The company was founded in 1978 as a division of the overarching Sun Corporation. They officially began their video game venture during the booming era of the video game arcade scene with titles such as Block Challenger and Block Perfect. They amplified their library during the 1980s and the 1990s during what many consider to be the golden age of video gaming. They continued to develop and publish titles into the 2000s but slowed down considerably during the 2010s. They talked about this period and attributed it to having to do “grown-up things.” Either way, the company is back, and we can’t wait to see what they’re up to next week.
