The Red Lantern Announced For The Switch

In a string of recent announcements, the Nintendo Switch has revealed another addition to its collection of exclusive games that will be arriving this year. This time, Nintendo has announced The Red Lantern in a recently released trailer. Timberline Studio describes their upcoming title as “a rogue-lite, resource management narrative game,” which is an intriguing start for prospective players. Check out the announcement trailer below:

Generally, the player will have to work together with their team of five sled dogs in the wilderness of Alaska. The goal is to find your way home while battling the brutal and constantly changing natural environment in the famed Iditarod race. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is a long-distance sled race that takes place every year in March from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. In the actual race, “mushers” can have a team of up to fourteen dogs and five of those must be on the towline at the finish line while the race typically takes anywhere from just over a week to two weeks.

This perilous undertaking is something that Timberline is attempting to recreate in a realistic tone. The Red Lantern will take place in Nome where the Musher will head out into the wild to train for the Iditarod. The game will tell a deep story while players will also have to deal with a wide array of events that could occur, such as: bear attacks, taking proper care of the dogs, interacting with nature through gentle actions or hunting, setting up a livable camp, or preventing frostbite. The beautifully sculpted landscape looks like it will thrive on the Switch, allowing players to look around the environment by turning the system’s gyro controls in Handheld Mode.

The Red Lantern is planning its release at some point in 2019 only on the Nintendo Switch.
