The Producer of the Dynasty Warrior Franchise Wants to Make a Star Wars Musou Game

Believe it or not but the Dynasty Warriors franchise is still going strong to this day. As we approach the 22nd anniversary of the franchise, the producer of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires Akihiro Suzuki had a recent interview with JPGames regarding the newest entry in the fabled series. One of the questions that Suzuki was given was which license or franchise would he like to work on next for another spin off series. His answer? Only one of the most popular and storied media franchises of all time; Star Wars.

Suzuki states that while the development team has had many brainstorms regarding spin-offs, the idea for Star Wars is his own personal wish. “Within the dev team, a lot of different IPs and works have been brought up. This is solely my own opinion, but my own personal wish would be for a Star Wars crossover.” The Dynasty Warriors series has had numerous cross-overs with several different IPs in the past. This includes Gundam, Fire Emblem, The Legend of Zeldaand most recently Persona 5Seeing a Star Wars Musou title seems like a no-brainer, as we can easily imagine playing with any Jedi or Sith swinging our lightsaber and taking down hordes of enemies in one fell swoop.

This idea has actually come about in some form or another in other Star Wars entries, such as Jedi Knight and Jedi Knight Academy. Other examples include The Force Unleashed, and when you take control of the hero character in Battlefront and Battlefront II. Quite frankly, we’d love to get our hands on a Star Wars Musou title, as the possibilities for the gameplay, different maps, and characters are almost endless. For the time being it’s just a dream, but for those waiting on Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires to release stateside, that dream is about to become a reality as it launches later this month on February 15 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
