After nearly 24 hours, the PSN is back online. The outage, which started on Friday night, saw all of the PlayStation Network, Store, and Portal experience issues. This is the longest the PlayStation 5 has experienced since the platform was released back in 2020. For those who do or don’t know, it’s not the longest outage that Sony Interactive Entertainment had to deal with. Those who had a PS3 back in 2011 probably remember when all of PlayStation Network’s subscribers lost access to its services for nearly a month following a data breach. Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case here. PlayStation said that the PSN was fully recovered from” an operational issue.”
Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.

One of the biggest issues that is different from this outage compared to previous ones is how game licenses are handled on the platform. With things going more and more digital, players with digital copies were unable to play their games. Some digital titles were able to launch without internet access but then PlayStation would warn players that the game would close after 15 minutes due to being unable to verify the license for the game.
The outage affected many games, especially those with limited-time and/or live events. This weekend marked the start of the second Open Beta Test for the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds. The second OBT2 will run over the next two weekends but the developers have announced that they will extend the beta an additional day at a future date.
PS5 hunters, thanks for your patience and understanding during this weekend’s PSN service issues. To account for reduced OBT2 play time due to the outage, we are considering running OBT2 for an additional 24 hours at a future date. Exact details and timing are TBD, so please stay…

Bungie also announced plans for an additional Sundered Doctrine Contest Mode weekend for all platforms. This weekend, Destiny 2 ran a weekend race to see who could finish a hard “contest” mode of its dungeon within 48 hours. Following the PSN outage, they announced that the additional contest mode in the future, which is something that Bungie hasn’t done.
Due to issues affecting PlayStation players’ ability to sign in to Destiny 2, we are planning an additional Sundered Doctrine Contest Mode weekend for all platforms.
Specific dates and times will be announced at a later date.
Note: The Sundered Doctrine Race has concluded. This…

These are just a few of the developers that have announced updates regarding their games, either issuing status updates or apologies to their community.
PlayStation has gifted all PlayStation Plus members five additional days of service as an apology and thank you to the community for their patience. The timing of the outage seems rather odd considering the reports on a new State of Play happening supposedly sometime this week. Nothing official has been announced yet but a recent leak may have revealed the release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater which we will most likely see at the State of Play whenever that takes place.
