Back at The Game Awards, Godfall was revealed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, along with Bluepoint Games confirming that another PS5 exclusive is in development. Comments made by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier sheds a bit of light on Sony’s plans for exclusive next gen titles. Elsewhere, Microsoft plans to hold off on exclusives for the first year of the Xbox Series X life cycle. So the gaming community can expect very different rollouts for their new consoles from these two companies.
Schreier discussed the rollout of next-gen consoles on an episode Kotaku’s “Splitscreen” podcast. He claimed to have “heard [about] some of the PS5 launch titles” and confirms that they are Playstation 5 exclusives. The announcement of Godfall soon after definitely adds credence to these claims that become increasingly relevant as more information is revealed. It is important to note that Schreier implied that there would be multiple exclusive launch games. Whether these titles come to fruition remains to be seen. There is speculation about many upcoming titles, though they are purely rumors at this point.
This is a standard release strategy from Sony, as exclusive content is sure to drive sales for the Playstation 5. Microsoft, on the other hand, continues to opt for more unorthodox release strategies. The PS5 already has about 5 confirmed games, including Gods and Monsters, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Lord of The Rings: Gollum. Cyberpunk 2077, is also not ruled out for next-gen, though developers say it’s not in their “area of interest” right now. PS5 will have backwards compatibility with PS4 games as well, so there will be plenty of options for next-gen players.
With part of Jason Schreier’s revelation coming to pass, fans are bracing for more announcements from Sony regarding PlayStation 5 exclusives. Nothing is confirmed as of yet, but Schreier has invoked a lot of excitement regarding Sony’s exclusive titles. Check back for updates as they come.
