The PlayStation 5 Passes 40 Million Units Sold

The tech giant Sony, announces on Thursday that the PlayStation 5 has sold over 40 million units while also revealing the top PS5 games, which were voted by the players.

This news comes from Sony-Playstation’s Twitter, announcing this milestone for the companies current flagship console, and linked an article by Jim Ryan, the current CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment.  In the SIE blog post, Ryan thanks the fans for support during the three years that the console has been out which released at the end of November 2020, during the height of Covid-19 and faced multiple challenges like supply chain issues, and scalpers.

According to Jim Ryan, “Despite the unprecedented challenges of COVID, our teams and our partners worked diligently to deliver PS5 on time. We continued to face headwinds with the pandemic, and it took months for supply chains to normalize so we could have the inventory to keep up with demand.”  During this time, Sony kept thanking the gaming community for their patience while the company kept working through these challenges.

Now since these challenges and issues have been resolved, stock for the console is much higher than it was two years ago, as well as the increased demand.  Ryan notes this as well in the blog post and due to the increased demand, the console has surpassed the 40 million mark. He also goes on to highlight the amount of games currently available, saying, “PS5 launched with the best catalog of games in our history and the momentum for great content keeps getting stronger. From innovative indie games to AAA blockbusters, there are more than 2,500 PS5 games now available.”

In the blog post as well, they include the top 40 PS5 games, which were voted by players.  They include titles such as Final Fantasy XVI, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022), Dead Space Remake, Demon Souls, Hades, and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

You can currently purchase a PlayStation 5 through Sony or any online retailer like Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, and Newegg.
