On the 15th of October, Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division released the anti-corporate sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds. The Outer Worlds is not as expansive as its closest competitor, Fallout, but the game’s written narrative, art style and, in defiance of Obsidian’s reputation, nearly big free state has landed the game a very favorable reception with players. The game was even in contention for the coveted Game of the Year award at The Game Awards.
Overall, The Outer Worlds was nominated for 4 awards at The Game Awards: Best Narrative Award, Best Role playing Game Award, Best Performance Award for Ashley Burch’s role voice acting the companion Parvati Holcomb, and the Game of the Year Award. Unfortunately, Obsidian and Private Division ultimately did not take home any awards, as the game was nominated alongside difficult competition with ZA/UM’s Disco Elysium and FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Following The Game Awards, Obsidian took the time to thank its players on their community forum. Alongside the short thank you message, Obsidian did take a moment to announce that a new story DLC for The Outer Worlds will be planned for 2020. No more details about the DLC was announced at this time, but the story of the Halycon Colony is not yet over and there are a few planets on the map of the Halycon Colony that have not been explored by the players.
However, the journey isn’t over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date.
The Outer Worlds is available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and will come to the Nintendo Switch at some point in 2020. For all Xbox Game Pass subscribers The Outer Worlds is available for them to download and play.
