The Order 1886 Reaches Top of UK Charts

Ready at Dawn’s Steampunk third person shooter The Order 1886 is the number one selling game in the UK, according to sales monitoring site Chart-Track.

The news comes in spite of lackluster reviews for the hotly anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive, which has amassed a disappointing 65 Metacritic score from both critics and users.

The Order is another top selling win for publisher Sony. Last August, The Last of Us: Remastered, another PS4 exclusive, was the UK’s top selling game.

The game has dethroned multiplayer shooter Evolve, which was released last week. After spending a week at the number one spot, Evolve has now been knocked down to third place, behind Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which was released last November.

Rounding out the top five are Far Cry 4, another November release that’s still going strong, and the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V.

The full list is as follows:

  • The Order 1886
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  • Evolve
  • Far Cry 4
  • Grand theft Auto V
  • FIFA 15
  • Minecraft: Xbox Edition
  • Zelda Majora’s Mask 3D
  • Minecraft: Playstation Edition
  • Destiny

Prior to its release, The Order 1886 was the subject of worrying preview reception, in which those who played it complained of uninspired cover based shooting, an overuse of QTEs and long bouts of walking around doing nothing. A playthrough of the entire game leaked prior to it’s launch showed that the entire experience was over in five hours.

Following it’s release, The Order sparked several debates on what is considered an adequate length for a videogame, especially a singleplayer-only one.

At any rate, it remains to be seen if The Order will maintain its chart dominance in the coming weeks.
