The Witchwood for Hearthstone has been a great addition to the digital collectible card game. Fans have been wanting more, and they will be getting exactly what they have asked for. Just announced by Blizzard, the next Hearthstone expansion, The Boomsday Project, is just around the corner.
Everyone’s favorite (or hated) Hearthstone character, Dr. Boom, is making an exhilarating comeback with this machine-themed expansion. According to a press release, The Boomsday Project‘s lore will revolve around Dr. Boom, who “has built a complex of hidden laboratories in the ever-churning Netherstorm, where he and his colorful crew of renegade researchers are hard at work on all manner of ill-advised scientific endeavors.” The Boomsday Project will be adding nine new legendary spells, new mechanics, and a brand new challenge for players to adventure in.
In total, there will be 135 cards added to the mix, and you can keep up with the already announced cards over on the official Hearthstone website. The new card mechanics will be the following: Projects, Omega, and Magnetic. Project cards are designed to assist not only the caster of the card, but the opponent as well, and its general mechanic can be similarly compared to the recently retired Coldlight Oracle.
Omega cards have been designed to be played either in the early/mid game, but also give an additional reward in the late game. Theses cards will gain enhanced effects if played when you have reached your mana crystal cap.
Finally, the coolest mechanic out of the bunch is Magnetic. This new keyword ability will allow players to combine mech cards. Once a card with Magnetic is played, a player can choose a mech card to combine the first card with, and every single point of attack and health will be combined into one card, and it will also gain every keyword of both respective cards.

In addition, the new adventure, The Puzzle Lab, will be the next single-player game to be added to Hearthstone. At the moment, there are no further details on the adventure, but more info will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Those who are interested in getting a head start on the expansion can pre-order card packs. As per usual, there is a deal that will give 50 card packs for $49.99, and it will also include a free random golden class Legendary and the Mecha-Jaraxxus card back. There is a new pre-order option, however, that runs for $79.99, and it will net you everything mentioned before, and that bundle will include a new playable Warlock hero, Mecha-Jaraxxus, a mechanical spin on a long running character. The Boomsday Project will launch on August 7.
