The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has received a big patch to fix many PC performance issues. When it launched in May, it ran rampant with issues at various points in the game. Thus, developers targeted many of those issues in a new patch that is available now. As of now, it is unknown whether or not these changes will exist for console versions of the game.
Daedalic posted an extensive list of changes for the PC version on the Gollum steam page. some of the patch fixes are issues related to quest markers disappearing, interactable objects which are for some reason non-interactable, checkpoint system bugs, and many more. The patch targets both general issues and more specific issues like fixing the bell in the “Thranduil’s Halls Cellar” segment of the game where it was automatically placed before players could place it for themselves which made it impossible to progress the objective. This in turn disallowed players to move forward in the game as the objective would not trigger, thereby causing a ‘freeze’ for any player who had the issue in their game.
Some other notable issues which were fixed in the patch include an adjustable DLSS default mode from ‘off” to ‘auto’ to prevent stuttering and performance issues when playing with RTX without DLSS. The patch also resolved a low reproducibility bug where parts of the game’s environment went missing. Additionally, the patch fixed an issue where quest markers could disappear after continuing from the main menu. Continually, the patch fixed a conditional blocker that caused Gollum to die if restarting during the beetle conflict. Increasingly, the patch addressed an issue of losing mouse focus when opening the main menu and also the loss of mouse focus when a blocker in the tower of light appeared where the guard could see the player after spawning.
The new Lord of the Rings: Gollum patch will enhance the player experience for those playing on PC. With all the changes, the game should be vastly more enjoyable than before.
