The Last of Us HBO show has been nothing short of an amazing success thus far. It’s already one of the most critically acclaimed television series of 2023, and we’re only just getting through the second episode. Due to this, the video game series that the show is based on, The Last of Us, is experiencing major sales spike, specifically in the UK. Gamesindustrybiz reports that both The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us Remastered have seen a 238% and 322% sales increase respectively, which is an insane amount of percentage for any title see.
What makes this even more significant is that both of these iterations are a re-release of the original 2013 title. That essentially means that a near-ten year old title has seen massive resurgence in sales statistics, something that even newer titles only ever hope to see in any given situation. The Last of Us Remastered, which released in 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and only one year after the original, was considered by many to be an impressive upgrade, and gave PlayStation 4 owners a great chance to play the highly acclaimed title. The Last of Us Part 1 is a complete remake that launched for the PlayStation 5 and PC. It includes several bells and whistles that most modern systems utilize in today’s market.
The latter has generated some controversy due to being given a hefty retail price tag, but that hasn’t stopped it from being played several times over by fans of the series, new and old. In fact, due to the show’s success, it’s more than likely a matter of time until we see sales numbers spike for the infamous sequel, The Last of Us Part II. As for the current percentage increase, while it’s only being reported for the UK at the moment, there’s a very good possibility that we’ll see some more statistics from other regions, namely the US. Either way you extrapolate it, Naughty Dog’s killer app has once again taken over a popular medium, this time in television.
