The Last Guardian ‘under earnest development’

Like Duke Nukem and Final Fantasy: Versus XIII before, and Half Life 3 now, The Last Guardian feels like it will never see the light of day. But not according to Fumito Ueda, head of Team Ico at SCE’s Japan Studio.

In an interview with Famitsu magazine, Mr. Ueda mentioned the games development when discussing Ico’s influence on The Last of Us.

It’s very modern in that way, or you could say the game design matches well with modern times. We don’t want to lose out to them, and we’re working on The Last Guardian so it works in similar ways.

In regards to the work being done on the game, he added…

It’s under earnest development. However, SCE Japan Studio, who’s working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now.

That is as close as you will get to confirmation that the game will be coming out – eventually. It’s a safe bet to assume The Last Guardian has been moved to the PlayStation 4. Don’t be surprised if it makes an appearance at this years Tokyo Game Show.

The game was first shown at E3 2009 and many expected it to be out by now. Thr
