The Last Guardian “In Development” and “Well Staffed”

Mark Cerny is certainly the architect/brains behind the PlayStation 4, but equally as certain is Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida’s position as the face of the PlayStation 4. GamesIndustry International caught up with the Twitter chatting, fan favorite boss after TGS, when he was inevitably asked about The Last Guardian.

So, we’re waiting for the right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian in an appropriate way. I can’t… Well, the game is in development, and it’s well staffed, and Ueda-san is here, working – even though he’s not a Sony employee, he’s dedicated to the product. But we’re not ready to update yet.

He was then asked if the game was being developed within the building in which the interview was taking place.

Yeah, in this building!

He finished by acknowledging verbal mistakes were made in the past, leading to confusion as to whether the game ever went on developmental hiatus.

Hiatus, I never… It was Jack Tretton! He used that term, and I said no, hiatus is misleading. It was a hiatus in terms of releasing new information. The game has never stopped – the team has always been here. They’re going through the re-engineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it’s more engineering focused right now.

He quickly dodged a question concerning the platform it’s being developed on. Considering this generation is over its apex, and with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One coming soon, it’s highly unlikely it would be released on the PlayStation 3. Of course, we won’t know until Sony fully pulls down the veil of this tantalizing project.
