Aside from Half-Life 3 and Duke Nukem Forever The Last Guardian has been one of those games that were famous for never coming out. We all know the story, the game was announced seven years ago, back when the PS3 was only as old as its successor is now. After that, the game’s developers, Team Ico, stopped talking about it with Sony insisting that the game was still in development.
The game was re-revealed back in 2015 and given a final release date of October 25 during E3 this year.
Well, maybe not a final release date.
Today on the PlayStation Blog Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE Worldwide Studios, gave an update on the game’s progress, unfortunately, it’s not what many fans wanted to hear.
Yoshida said that the studio is reaching milestones and the game is progressing, but the team has decided to push the game’s release date.
The Last Guardian development team is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks. The Last Guardian will launch on December 6, 2016.
The reason for the delay is simple the game wasn’t meeting the standards set by the studio and the game’s designer Fumito Ueda. The team encountered a large number of bugs during the game’s last few months and would like to take the extra weeks to polish the game.
Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long.
The post concluded with Yoshida acknowledging that this is the last thing fans want to hear, especially for this game, and thanked fans for all their support.
A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development…We appreciate your continued support.
The Last Guardian will be out on December 6th for all versions of the PS4.
