Details began rolling in late last week concerning Hero 27, the upcoming character that will be added to the Overwatch roster. Things kicked off with a debriefing of an “Operation White Dome,” which mentioned a man that no one had ever heard of before named Emre Sarioglu. Some jumped to conclusions and assumed this mysterious Turkish operative would join the cast, but an additional story update over the weekend suggested someone else: Brigitte, daughter of Overwatch hero Torbjörn.
Brigitte has appeared in many pieces of lore to date, including several comics and the recent “Honor and Glory” cinematic, which primarily starred her and Reinhardt. Shortly after the release of Moira last year, director Jeff Kaplan teased that the next Hero was a “surprise that has perhaps been hinted at,” seeming to confirm that we had already seen the character before. Brigitte predictably made that list, and after today, it appears to be a pretty good guess.
While trying to post a teaser image that made the rounds yesterday, the Japanese Twitter account for Overwatch accidentally posted this:
Case closed, it would seem. And while this could be a double or even triple reverse on the part of Blizzard, it’s likely just an honest error that definitively let the cat out of the bag. The Overwatch team has outright said that the newest Hero will be “meta-changing,” so here’s hoping that Brigitte brings a unique kit that helps her stand out in the increasingly crowded ranks of the game—which will now feature two parent/daughter combos (respect to Ana and Pharah). For now, see her in action here:
