The Good Life Enjoys a Successful Kickstarter With Hours to Spare

The Good Life, the newest product from the creator of fan favorites such as Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, managed to reach its Kickstarter goal of $623,968 with just a couple of days to spare.

The Good Life is described as a “debt repayment daily life RPG”, which makes it sound a lot like Animal Crossing. Players will control Naomi, a New York journalist who moves to a backwater British town in order to pay off her massive debt. She does this by taking pictures of happenings in the town of Rainy Woods and reporting on them. The so-called “happiest town in the world” is home to a variety of bizarre residents, and the claim of “happiest town” is somewhat dubious given that Naomi soon discovers a murder victim during her time there.

Oh, and I forgot to mention how once a month everyone in town (Naomi included) turns into a cat or dog for a night. That Animal Crossing comparison seems even more apt now, doesn’t it?

The game was originally pitched on the crowdfunding website Fig last year, but failed to reach its goal. The Kickstarter also included a link to download the prototype version of the game for public use and examination. To celebrate, SWERY, the creator of Deadly Premonition, posted this tweet, containing a reference to a hammy line from one of The Good Life’s trailers:

The Good Life does not have a concrete release date yet, but it’s planned for a Steam and PlayStation 4 release. A Switch release was offered as a $800k stretch goal, but that is extremely unlikely to be funded at this point. Instead, the extra money will be used “…towards additional content for the game and we will share what these are with you in a post campaign update”.
