The Game Awards Are Improving their Accessibility for Viewers

The Game Awards 2020 is airing on December 10 after big year for the video game industry despite the challenges the world has faced. Players have seen the new console from Xbox and PlayStation as well as new VRs as well. Big games were dropped like Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Hades, and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 (which is not included in this year’s awards due to the delayed-release). With a lot to discuss and give awards to, The Game Awards are proudly offering a special audio descriptive mode live stream for those who are visually impaired. Also, this was the first year The Video Game Accessibility Awards were held as well.

Geoff Keighley, who helped create, self-financed, produce, and hosts The Game Awards, announced it on Twitter on December 5. The audio descriptive mode will be an option through their live stream which is through YouTube Gaming. Established in 2014, The Game Awards is an annual awards ceremony that celebrates and honors exceptional achievements in the gaming industry. It is exceptional that more companies are taking great strides to make the gaming industry accessible to those with disabilities. For example, Watch Dogs: Legion and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla both have new accessibility options: closed captions, audio dynamic range, dialogue boost, obstacle collision SFX, ambient volume, and various options for the different types of colorblind.

To learn more about accessibility, Can I Play That? is a gaming website that covers accessibility in the video game industry and have to be credited for their hard work for speaking up for those with disabilities. The Game Awards have made a great step forward and they recognize accessibility matters.

The Game Awards will air on December 10 at 7 pm EST / 4 pm PT live as a free digital live stream.
