During The Game Awards 2023, SEGA showcased its upcoming lineup of games featuring some old fan-favorites.
With the slogan “New Era, New Energy,” SEGA announced at least five games of well-known franchises are currently in development including:
–Jet Set Radio: This action game has the player skating around a Tokyo-inspired world while avoiding police as you make the city your own with the help of fellow youth gang members and graffiti.
–Shinobi: A hack-and-slash franchise that has ninjas, weapons like shuriken, ninjutsu to defeat enemies that threaten to destroy the peaceful life the protagonist has enjoyed.
–Golden Axe: Another hack-and-slash franchise that incorporates melee weapons and fantasy themes, like beasts, swords and magic to retrieve the titular Golden Axe.
–Streets of Rage: A side scrolling beat ’em up focusing on a team of vigilantes as they try to rid their city of a crime organization that has corrupted their government.
–Crazy Taxi: A racing game where the player controls a taxi driver who needs to get his passengers to their destination as quickly as possible, with cool tricks along the way being encouraged.
According to the official press release, Co-COO of SEGA Corporation and CEO of SEGA of America, Shuji Utsumi stated: ““In recent years, Sonic the Hedgehog has forged new paths for SEGA, bringing the franchise to life and reaching new audiences in ways we had only dreamed of in the past. Building off that success, we are digging into our legacy and reimagining several franchises to bring these games to more audiences around the globe. Today’s announcement is just the start of our initiative. First and foremost, our ambition will be to create great games with memorable characters and worlds. We hope fans of all ages will look towards our future with anticipation as we release these projects in the coming years.”
