During the open night of Gamescom, Geoff Keighley confrimed the date and location of The Game Awards 2023, which is set for Decemebr 7th, 2023 at the Peacock Theature, the 10th annual show since starting in 2014.
Since its first show back in 2014, The Game Awards has been exclusivly a digital live streamed show as the primary way to reach gamers around the world, and this year is no different. This year’s show will be streamed on 30 different digital streaming platforms, including Youtube, Twitch.TV, Steam, X (or Twitter), Facebook, TikTok Live and many more. Last year’s show broke records, at 103 million, making the event the largest digital streamed event in the world.
Considered the “the Oscars for gaming world” by the New York Times, The Game Awards is one of, if not the largest live streamed event of the year. Every year, the event brings together game developers, online influencers, fans and Hollywood for a night of awards voted by the players. At the end of the event, one game is crowned Game Of The Year or GOTY, by the fans. This event, is of course free across many streaming platforms and is streamed live globally, including China and India.

Last year’s show narrowed the gap between games and Hollywood movies and TV shows, with “Best Adaptation” catagory which was awarded to Fortiche, Riot Games and Netflix’s animated series, Arcane: League of Legends. Along with this was the world’s first premier clip of the Super Mario Bros. Movie film, and had the cast HBO’s The Last of Us present one of the awards.
Lasst year’s Game Of The Year was awarded to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, beating out Santa Monica Studios’ God of War: Ragnarök. Both of these titles won previous awards from that night as well.
The Game Awards 2023 will again be hsoted by Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim, and feature musical performances with The Game Awards Orchestra, conducted by Lourne Balfe.
