The Game Awards 2020 Winners: The Last of Us: Part II Wins Game of the Year

After a year in which can only be described as incredibly difficult, The Game Awards reminded us that lot of good also came about in 2020. Particularly the studios that, despite the odds, came together to released, and announce new and improved IP’s that assisted us in coping and pushing through a different world during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We also got some excellent reveals at the show which included a super huge tease for a brand new entry in the Mass Effect franchise.

As expected, The Last of Us: Part II took home the biggest prize at the event, winning the prestigious Game of The Year Award. The game also went onto win seven out of the eleven awards that they were nominated for, an impressive feat to say the least. This includes Best Narrative, Game Direction, Best Audio Design, and Best Performance for Laura Bailey who voiced the character Abby. The other nominees for Game of the Year were Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, and Hades.

A lot of other titles did well at the event as well, including Hades which won two awards, Best Action Game and Best Indie Game. Another major winner of the night included Final Fantasy VII: Remake which also took home two awards, Best RPG and Best Score and Music. The surprise hit of the year, Among Us, nabbed two awards themselves, Best Mobile Game and Best Multiplayer Game. Phasmophobia won Best Debut Game while Ghost of Tsushima won both Best Art Direction and Players Voice.
