The First Piece of Story DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance Has Been Released

From Ashes, the first in a series of upcoming story DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, went live this past week. All of 2018’s post-launch content was revealed earlier in the spring, when From Ashes was first announced. Alongside the DLC’s release, Warhorse Studios released a launch trailer and elaborated on what players can expect in this new piece of content.

From Ashes essentially allows players to oversee development of a village as they come across the ruins of a town being rebuilt from its former life as a bandit camp. The DLC’s story is integrated into the main campaign, for players are appointed bailiff of the village and direct how it is to be rebuilt. As the town develops, players can invest in different types of buildings that in turn generate both money and new opportunities. From Ashes is not a “city builder” as the trailer points out, but more of a “finance management system.”

The challenge in the DLC is therefore to keep the spending and collecting of money in balance and eventually gain steady income from running the town. Failing to do so creates a bit of a problem for both the town and for you. Eventually, the Lord who gave you stewardship over the town will promptly relieve you of duty “if you mess things up too much, or lose too much reputation,” according to the trailer.

Players will also be able to develop a number of other things in the village, such as an alchemy station (whereas previously you’d be forced to search out laboratories elsewhere in the world). You’ll also be able to develop an herb garden, or other full buildings. A stable will allow players to buy unique horses that can’t be found in other places.

From Ashes is out now, for $10. Kingdom Come: Deliverance released in February for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
