Yesterday we reported just that Square Enix was planning on dropping a brand new trailer this week for Final Fantasy VII Remake as part of their Tokyo Game Show (TGS) showcase. Well we didn’t have to wait very long as the company has just unveiled their newest trailer for the game, and it’s as beautiful and emotional as we hoped it would be.
The evil Shinra corporation rules the world with an iron fist & continues to spin its web of lies. Have the rebels, known as Avalanche, bitten off more than they can chew?

While the previous E3 trailer focused on how the game would look and play, this one feels like a giant flashback to our childhoods. Fans of the original 1997 release will easily fall in love with this trailer as it’s sequence of in game cut scenes strung together with the graphical updates. The video is brimming with beloved moments such as the opening bombing mission, Cloud’s first encounter with fan favorite Reno, meeting Aerith for the first time, and even the part where Tifa and Aerith enlist Cloud to infiltrate Don Corneo’s mansion. Yes, we even get to relive that hilarious memory.
We also got to see a lot of new things as well, such as a brand new member of the Soldier program that Shinra runs, and an additional boss fight with Reno that we never got to experience the first time around. On top of that, Square Enix also threw in some small clips of gameplay that includes some new exercise mini games with Tifa and company. Speaking of gameplay, a tiny bit of the combat was shown again, one of which was Cloud being turned into a frog and literally hopping around. For those that don’t know, this is a special ability called Toad, and it does just what it sounds like.
Lastly, the trailer shows off some of the Summons, one of the signature features of the Final Fantasy franchise. Long time stalwarts, Ifrit and Shiva, get a bit of a makeover, but both look absolutely stunning with Remake’s graphics. With so much going on here, it’s easy to forget that this is still a re-imagining of a PlayStation title from the 1990’s. Despite how it’s been stripped down and built back up, Final Fantasy VII is still considered the apex of RPG gaming by so many in the community, and those fans probably elicit many emotions based off of this trailer alone.
It’s also important to remember that the game is being released episodically, with the first part taking place strictly within the city of Midgar, or the first main disc of the original game from an old school perspective. So while the trailer shows off what Midgar looks like, we really want to see just how the rest of the planet will be once we get to the later installments. Hopefully, we won’t be waiting long for those to come out. Stay tuned for more coverage from the Tokyo Game Show 2019, which goes from September 12, Thursday to September 15, Sunday.
Final Fantasy VII Remake launches on March 3, 2020 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. We got to play a demo of the game at E3 and came away fairly impressed.
