Ubisoft has finally lifted the curtain on Far Cry 5, the next installment in the award-winning Far Cry franchise slated to release early next year. In a massive post on the UbiBlog, the game’s developers shared the game’s all new announce trailer, embedded above, as well as new information on the game’s setting, characters, and themes.
Far Cry 5 takes place in the Montana countryside, marking the first time the franchise has ever entered into the United States. Set in rural Hope County, the game pits the player up against the religious cultists of The Project at Eden’s Gate, who are spreading and taking over the county in the name of harvesting/saving souls.
Eden’s Gate is not led by a single charismatic leader, as is often the case with cults, but rather by a whole family of fanatical siblings. At the helm is Joseph Seed, known as “The Father”, the spiritual leader and icon of the group. Alongside him is the eldest Seed brother, Jacob, who boasts an expansive military background and is equipped with a “very unique set of skills”. They are joined by their youngest brother John, a lawyer, who maintains the cult’s public side and leads the group’s attempts to acquire land and take over Hope County. Last among them is Faith, the “baby sister”, who keeps the cultists organized and pacified within the ranks, “making sure that everyone’s rowing in the same direction.”
Far Cry 5 will also include friendly NPCs who can be recruited into your resistance, joining your force as invaluable allies with unique skills. These characters all offer unique backstories, having been wronged by Eden’s Gate in some way, and are eager for redemption. If you can gain their trust, they will be able to aid the player in the fight to retake Hope County.
Far Cry 5 is scheduled to launch for Xbox One, PlayStaion 4, and PC on February 27, 2018; more info will be revealed at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 Press Conference, which will take at 1:00pm PDT on June 12.
