It appears that an original source code of the very first Far Cry has been leaked onto the internet. To be specific, the code was leaked onto a site known as the Internet Archive, which is a place that houses a plethora of free books, movies, software, and other ULR share sites. It was initially shared on Twitter by a well-known gaming modder, Vinícius Medeiros, and then spread through most of Reddit which prompted several people to try and utilize the assets.

For instance, someone could take the source code and remake the game with ray tracing, and even path tracing. Considering that the title was well ahead of its time when it launched, it’s highly probable that it would benefit greatly from these visual enhancements. From what we can tell, the source code is from Far Cry version 1.34. We’re not too sure where this fits within the Far Cry patch timeline but it appears that it’s a mostly complete build of the title, more than likely lacking some of the final polish that went into the post-production after the title was released.
The original Far Cry launched back in 2004 and was the very first title released by the German-based developer Crytek. The game was well received but became much more well-known for pushing the hardware at the time to make the title look like it was developed several years into the future. The series would be essentially given to Ubisoft who would go on to continue it, while Crytek would release their most famous, or infamous title ever; Crysis. Releasing in 2007, the title became a worldwide juggernaut of the PC gaming community, but only if you were able to play it. At least now every build can do it today.
