Behaviour Interactive, the developer behind popular multiplayer survival-horror game Dead by Daylight, has recently come under fire due to one of their job listings revolving around generative AI (AI). The listing’s focus on AI sparked concern amongst fans, as many believed the listing was proof of Behaviour’s intent to use AI art in their games. Behaviour has officially responded to these concerns and claimed that none of their games will feature AI art, although fans remain skeptical.
The job listing in question was for a “Senior Full-stack Programmer.” On the surface, it appears to be a standard senior programmer role, with candidates needing multiple years of programming experience and knowledge of various coding languages. However, the listing is for Behaviour’s “Generative AI Research Team” in which employees will “discover [their] true potential by exploring the possibilities that generative artificial intelligence offers.” The job listing describes the team using AI for “researching, developing, and integrating innovative solutions.” Furthermore, candidates must have a year of experience as an AI engineer in order to be qualified for the position.
We have a very firm policy that prevents the inclusion of anything generated by AI in Dead by Daylight or any other game we’re working on, including marketing assets. Yes, Behaviour is exploring the use of generative AI tools to improve internal workflows – not for anything that…

A portion of the job listing was then posted on X, with one user claiming that AI was now going to be involved in Behaviour’s “creative and programming endeavors” alongside the implication that AI was going to be used in Dead by Daylight’s development. In the replies to that post, fans expressed overwhelming frustration with Behaviour’s acceptance of AI. A common concern was that AI would be used in creating the art and programming behind Dead by Daylight, thus costing artists and programmers their jobs.
The official Dead by Daylight X account responded to the post, claiming that Behaviour has a “firm policy that prevents the inclusion of anything generated by AI in Dead by Daylight or any other game we’re working on.” Instead of AI being used for game development, Behaviour would use it to “improve internal workflows.” An almost identical statement can be found on the official Behaviour Interactive X account. Behaviour’s post confirms that the AI team is not involved in game development and that policy around the implementation of AI art in their games remains the same. The post also mentions that the job listing was edited to “clarify both the roles and Behaviour’s intended AI applications.” It’s unclear how much of the original job listing has been edited.
In light of these statements, many fans still found themselves upset by the inclusion of AI in Behaviour’s operations. Many replies highlighted that the use of AI, regardless of what it is being used for, will negatively impact the environment. Additionally, fans were not convinced that Behaviour would keep their word and not use AI for their games’ programming and artwork. Many fans pointed out that the initial job listing wanted candidates to have “familiarity with generative AI tools for video, image, or content creation,” implying that Behaviour was planning to use AI artwork in some capacity.
Despite fan backlash about the inclusion of AI, Behaviour has made it clear that AI will be integrated into their company. It remains to be seen how Behaviour’s decision and statements surrounding AI will impact their player-base, operations, and future projects.
