The Day Before, the much-maligned game that released less than a month ago, is having its servers shut down next month as its developer, Fntastic, is officially ceasing operations.
The game’s future was up in the air after Fntastic announced that it was shutting down just four days after the game’s release. In their previous statement, they said that the future of The Day Before was unknown, but the servers would remain operational.
That is no longer the case, as the game’s Twitter account announced that the servers would be turned off on Jan. 22, 2024, and the game would cease to be sold. It will have been online for only 45 days.
“We regret to inform you that the development company Fntastic has officially ceased operations, and as a result The Day Before will be retired and the servers will be turned off on 22 January 2024,” the statement reads.
“As previously communicated, Mytona, as the investor, has been working in collaboration with Steam to facilitate refunds for all game purchasers. For any players who have not already had their purchase refunded, Steam will now proactively refund all remaining players.”
The developer had previously said that refunds would be available to all players by request, regardless of how much time they had spent with the game. It would seem that all players will now be issued refunds, regardless of whether or not the return the game.
The statement continues, “We extend our gratitude for the community’s support throughout the project’s life. Unfortunately, without a development team, we had no alternative choice but to officially close the project. We sincerely thank all our supporters throughout this journey and wish you all a happy holiday season.”
With this, it would appear that The Day Before’s strange saga is coming to an end, as it moved from being Steam’s most wishlisted game to having a place in its top 10 worst reviewed before Fntastic announced it was shutting down entirely.
