The Cube, Save Us, was the newest extraction shooter to hit the gaming market on March 17, 2026. It was developed by XLGAMES and was a free-to-play live-service game. Now, only 3 weeks later, XLGAMES announced on April 8, 2026, on its Steam page that the game will officially end service on May 8, 2026, and that all purchases made in the game through Steam will receive a full refund, with refunds scheduled for April 9. The game is shutting down a month from now, so if you want to give it a try or say goodbye, you can still do so until its shutdown on May 8, 2026.
The Cube, Save Us, debuted on Steam on March 18, 2026, in a current market where extraction shooters are popular, such as Marathon and Arc Raiders. The game did well for itself with a concurrent player peak of 5,177 on its launch day. Unfortunately, the game started to lose its player base quickly, which is a death sentence for free-to-play games, and with mostly negative reviews on Steam, the game lost its player base and now suffers the consequences. The developer of the game had this to say to fans, “We once again thank our Raiders who have loved The Cube, Save Us, and we will never forget the memories and experiences we have shared together.”
The Cube, Save Us is unfortunate: another live service game facing a shutdown so close to its launch. The other two games were Concord, which lasted two weeks, and Highguard, which lasted 45 days after launch. With another live-service game facing a shutdown so close to launch, it goes to show now more than ever how important first impressions have become in an era where lots of games come out, and players have only so much time and resources to play. Getting it right the first time is the best and most desirable route for game success.
