Blizzard Entertainment recently announced the Blizzard Showcase, a series of developer-led updates for their most popular games and franchises. The announcement stems from a video on their YouTube channel titled “Blizzard: The Next Chapter”. Throughout the end of January and the beginning of February, updates will be coming regarding the future of World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and Diablo. These showcases were hinted as the start of where Blizzard is going, possibly leading to more in the future.
The video shows off a desk with items and decorations that hearken back to the company’s long history. As the camera pans across to reveal each game in chronological order, iconic sounds from the titles play, leading into the future updates that the Blizzard Showcase has promised. Among the games shown off include fan favorites not announced to be part of the showcase such as both StarCraft games and Heroes of the Storm, making some fans hopeful that the additional information the video description hinted at will include something related to an older title.
Blizzard’s official website provides some additional information on the event. World of Warcraft is the first game to receive a showcase on January 29th. With the Midnight update coming so soon, many are looking to the showcase to provide more details. On February 4th, Overwatch will receive its showcase, followed by the presentation for Hearthstone on February 9th. Finally, the Diablo series will receive a showcase to coincide with the celebration of its 30th anniversary. Expectations for the events are high, given a new season is coming for Diablo 4.
The Blizzard Showcase serves as a reminder of all that Blizzard has accomplished in its many years as a successful developer, helping to hype up fans for their upcoming announcements. Fans do not have long to wait to see if the company will live up to expectations and see what the start of the future of Blizzard will look like.
