Star Wars: Battlefront is getting its highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens themed DLC, The Battle of Jakku, early next month and additional details on Battlefront’s first DLC were announced today.
Included in the DLC will be the all new game mode titled Turning Point. The new mode boasts up to 40 players and takes the battle to two new maps set on the planet Jakku. The Rebel team will look to capture one of three points under Imperial control. If the Rebel team can accomplish this then additional time will be added and new points of capture will be made available until the ultimate goal of capturing the Empire base appears and both teams take their last stand. Airspeeders and ATSTs will be available to the Rebel’s and Imperials respectively to help complete objectives.
Team strategy is said to be key to making each experience unique. EA demonstrated this scenario as an example:
“For instance: once the Rebels have started taking over a control point, it can’t be reclaimed by the Empire. Let’s say there’s only 25% left of the claim process and the Empire has managed to drive away the Rebels. This means that the Empire have to choose between defending this vulnerable point or another part of the map. The Rebels in turn need to decide where their next attack should be”
These battles depicted in the DLC take place shortly after the Battle Of Endor 29 years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The battle’s aftermath with the debris filled planet of Jakku is seen briefly in the film’s trailers. This upcoming add-on is EA’s interpretation of said battle and is said to be a “visual spectacle”. No characters from the movie appear.
Official gameplay of the new content will debut on November 30th on a Twitch livestream. Gamers living in the UK can enter for 1 of 10 spots in the 40-man battle at http://www.starwarsbattlefront.com/london/.
The Battle of Jakku releases on December 1st for those that pre-ordered the game and releases a week later on December 8 for everyone.
