From Software has certainly come a long way since their days in the late 90s and early 2000s of developing and releasing niche titles such as Shadow Tower and Armored Core. Now a pillar of the gaming community, the studio behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring have made efforts to uplift some of their previous IPs to the level of the Soulslikes, including the aforementioned Armored Core. Armored Core 6 put mecha games back on the map with its release in August of 2023 and now we’re getting a full collection release for Playstation Plus Classics today.

Something people tend to bring attention to is just how hard it is to get your hands on a legal copy of some of the early games from the late 90s and early 2000s, but luckily Armored Core is in the hands of a developer that has their fingers on the pulse of gaming pretty consistently. With this, Armored Core, Armored Core: Project Phantasma, and Armored Core: Master of Arena will be available on Playstation Plus. Being the first three games of the series, players fresh from playing Armored Core 6 can now easily go back and experience the first games in the series and see the roots of gaming’s most iconic mecha title.

Though this is only for Playstation Plus players, others will have to wait for official releases if they want official channels to give them the full Armored Core 1 experience. Of course, there are other ways to play the games on PC right now, but given the choice between convenience and work most people tend to happily pay for convenience which is something I’m sure FromSoft are keenly aware of, I wouldn’t be surprised if this package came to Steam eventually, hopefully along with the harder to acquire and play Armored Core titles, the Armored Core 4 and Armored Core 5 compilations.
