The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game has been announced for the next generation. The sequel to last years The Amazing Spiderman will be released on PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One as well as systems across the previous generation.
One of the greatest (if not the greatest) movie tie-in games was Spider-Man 2 back in 2004. The game succeeded where many other tie-in games fail. It did more than simply follow the plot of the movie or present simple missions reflected by plot points in the film; it worked to expand the Spider-Man canon and mythology and worked as a solely stand alone property.
The greatest achievement of this game was the introduction of incredibly detailed and comprehensive “free roam” New York. Sure, it was 2004 and the presentation was slightly off, but for the time and for the nature of the game it was incredibly impressive. At the time, there was no greater pleasure than slinging webs through the streets of New York for hours on end.
One would hope, then, that Beenox (the developer behind the games) will try their best to recreate or at least reflect the great qualities found in this previous title. And it seems they may have.
The Studio’s co-head, Thomas Wilson, stated that they’re “giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress.” He also went on to discuss the new free-roaming gameplay to be featured in the “greatly expanded” New York City.
The game will also reach beyond the limitations of a film’s running time as it will feature new enemies and new story arcs to push players further into Spider-Man lore.
The Game was just announced at the New York Comic-Con so expect more updates soon.
