Some of the most common and well-received applications of the first-person perspective in video games include survival and horror games, which serve to tie the player to their surroundings and the fate of the character they play as. Both of these genres make up The 9th Charnel, a new game developed by Saiket Deb and published by SODESCO. Today, the game revealed its planned release date next year with a trailer.

The trailer begins with close-up looks at one of the characters in between shots of the environments. The 9th Charnel has a realistic art style for both the characters and environments, allowing the unnatural elements to stick out prominently in the reveal trailer. The creatures featured include lumbering human-like figures, massive spider creatures, and a flailing monster that is seen attacking the main character. Following a closer look at the destroyed rooms and dark caves, the trailer ends with a massive monster blocking out the moon.

The Steam store page contains additional information about the story and gameplay features players can expect when the game releases. Players will control Michael J. Jones, a genetic scientist caught in a car accident that separates him from his colleagues in a world that has lost faith in humanity. The 9th Charnel promises to place a heavy emphasis on story and atmosphere. To compliment that story, the game will allow players to gather supplies and weapons to fight back against the horrors they are sure to run into. Encounters will also include opportunities for stealth and complex puzzle situations to mix up the standard gameplay.

The new year approaching leads many to wonder what games will be available. For fans of the survival and horror genres, The 9th Charnel has offered an interesting journey through a monster-infested world. At the end of the trailer, the game was announced to be releasing on January 30th, 2026.

Alexander Jordan: I'm an English Major with a passion for video games. I like games that challenge me or make me think in ways that I wasn't prepared to. My favorite genres are platformers and strategy games.
