The Tetris mobile app is now the blueprint for a new live battle royale game show. Tetris Primetime, which is being described as a mashup between an esports competition and trivia like a live show, will be streamed daily for those who want to watch. Those who participate in the game are subject to win cash prizes (up to $5,000 USD) if they win.
The Tetris Primetime show is set to air seven days a week with multiple rounds being played at different times of the day and featuring players from all over the world. The initial launch for this system is set to be available for sixteen countries (including the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Swede, Norway, South America, Russia, Australia, and more), with the cutoff for overall prizes being at $1 million USD. As the host for this show has already been decided (settled on New Zealand actor Millen Baird), it will feature previews of the competitions set for the day along with highlight reels of the competitions that took place the day before.
Along with this new streaming mode, the app will also get the update of solo battle royale mode that features one hundred players playing until there is only one standing. Other modes set for release include a private multiplayer mode that features real-time video chatting. The only difference between these new modes and Primetime is that upon release, these will be available to everyone worldwide. As executive producer Ethan Levy says in the update information on the App Store (and the Android store), “Our goal from the beginning was to make the forever Tetris game, a game that lasts for years and years, with modes for everybody.” As the update description goes on, they plan to release Primetime to more countries and even try out a Fortnite style mode that includes players competing in quick sessions for the highest score (along with the possibility of creating their own avatar).
