Earlier today, it was announced that that Nintendo and hit battle royale puzzle game Tetris 99 will host the game’s second Maximus Cup in-game tournament. The second Maximus Cup will be held this coming weekend, and players across North America are welcomed to enter for their chance to win. The top 999 players, based on highest point totals, will be rewarded with 999 My Nintendo Gold Points which equates to about $10 USD.
The #Tetris99 2nd MAXIMUS CUP is set for 4/12, 6 AM PT – 4/14, 11:59 PM PT! Each match earns you event points based on your placing. 999 players with the most event points will each get 999 #MyNintendo Gold Points!

According to the Maximus Cup’s official rules, participants will earn points based on where they placed in every single game they play during the tournament. For each win, players will receive 100 points. A second place finish will net players 50 points. Third place will give players 30 points. For any other place in the top 10, players will receive 20 points.
If players can’t place in the top 10, they will still get 10 points for placing 11th-30th. 5 points will be given to players if they place between 31st and 50th. Finally, placing between 51st and 80th will net players 2 points. Players who finish anywhere below that will unfortunately gain zero points. At the end of the month, Nintendo will determine the 999 players that earned the most points, and then distribute their winnings accordingly.
Since the game was announced and released back in February, many have enjoyed this new twist on the battle royale genre. While the game currently only has one mode, dataminers have discovered a few more modes that may come to the game in the future. Tetris 99 is currently only available on Nintendo Switch and is completely free, so, as long as players have Nintendo Switch Online account, they can get the game and participate in the second Maximus Cup this weekend.
