Tequilla Works is a studio that debuted with the 2D platformer, Deadlight. Their follow up title, Rime, is slated for a release sometime next year. Previously, we covered how Rime was originally inteded to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive and published by Sony. When the deal fell through, Tequilla Works secured deals with other publishers and explored other platforms.
However, Rime is not the only project Tequilla Works has on their plate. According to Polygon, they are teaming up with the UK developer Cavalier Studios to create a murder mystery themed adventure game called The Sexy Brutale. The game takes place in a mansion that holds a ball attended by many colorful guests. However, the mansion’s staff have murderous intentions for the guests. Players will take on the role of an elderly priest trying to save the inhabitants from a grisly fate in a mysterious Groundhog Day-esque loop.
The gameplay involves using supernatural powers linked to the party goers’ masks. By discovering the guests’ many backstories, players will find out ways to save them from getting bumped off. There are a total of nine colorful guests in the mansion’s locales. Each of them have their own secenarios and puzzles.
The game was conceived by a former member of Lionhead Studios, Tom Landsdale and brothers Charles and James Griffiths. Tequilla Works became involved with the project when an early build was shown to them. When the director and CEO of Tequilla Works, Raul Rubio, saw the build, he and the studio jumped at the chance to collaborate with Cavalier Studios on this title. According to GameReactor, Rubio expressed his excitement for the project with the following quote:
By combining the unique talents of both our team we are proud to have created a genuinely intreguing and unforgettable experience for players to enjoy.
The Sexy Brutale is slated to release in the first quarter of 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
