After 30 years as an independent studio, Techland announced its next chapter in the form of a partnership with Chinese tech conglomerate Tencent. According to Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka, the partnership is a necessary way “to move full speed ahead” in expanding the scope of the studio’s IP. Despite being proud of his studio’s achievements, Marchewka expressed that “the best is yet to come.”
“We dream of turning Dying Light into the ultimate zombie game experience for players worldwide, providing you with multiple astonishing adventures and pushing the boundaries of solo and online modes to a totally new level,” wrote Marchewka.
“Our open-world action RPG in a fantasy setting is already shaping up to become something truly special, and the goal here is to make sure it will live up to the expectations for our first new IP in almost a decade,” He continued.
In addition to the partnership, Tencent is also set to become Techland’s majority shareholder. Marchewka concluded that will remain as Techland’s CEO and that his studio would maintain its creative freedom and ownership of its IPs.
More information on the partnership with Tencent will likely be revealed in the future.
