Telltale Release the First 15 Minutes of The Final ‘Walking Dead’ Season

Before it premieres in August, Telltale Games published the first fifteen minutes of The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Over the course of the upcoming season, players will also be saying goodbye to the character of Clementine, as Telltale has confirmed that this will mark the end of her story. This new video gives us an idea of the game’s plot, and what gameplay will be like.

“After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be Clementine’s chance for a home. But protecting it will mean sacrifice. Clem must build a life and become a leader while still watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left,” Telltale wrote. “In this gripping, emotional final season, you will define your relationships, fight the undead, and determine how Clementine’s story ends.”

In the gameplay video, while the game very much maintains the feel of its predecessors, there are a few noticeable differences and upgrades. Despite the game’s heavy narrative, combat is looking less like a scripted quick-time event and more open-ended. Clementine also collects items as she explores which suggest players can modify or make equipment.

With its final season, The Walking Dead Game promises “a new over-the-shoulder camera system,” which you can see in the video, plus more freedom in exploration and an “all-new Graphic Black art” style. One thing is for sure: Clementine has come a long way since season one of the game, and this new video highlights her transition from child to protector.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be out on August 14 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game will also be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
