Telltale Producing Stranger Things Game; Teaming Up With Netflix

Telltale Games has announced plans to create a series based off of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. In addition, Telltale has teamed up with Netflix to bring a streamable version of Minecraft: Story Mode to Netflix.

In a news story reported by TechRadar, Telltale Games and Netflix have entered into a deal that will bring some of Telltale’s games to the streaming service. Currently, Netflix has confirmed that we will be getting an adapted version of Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode that can be streamed on their service. It will consist of five episodes and arrive later this year.

For those wondering how such an experience would work, the Amazon Fire TV program would likely be a good example. That platform has a number of Telltale Games series on there, and all users need is a remote. Netflix already has some choose-your-own-experience titles on their roster, so the Telltale series could also work like those.

In a separate news story that was likely facilitated by the previous deal, Telltale will also be producing a video game project based of of Netflix’s popular series Stranger Things. There are no other details about this project other than the fact that it will be coming to consoles and the computer.

In a later update to the TechRadar story, Netflix gave some clarifying details:

1. We can confirm Minecraft: Story Mode is a licensed 5-episode interactive narrative series coming to our service this fall. It’s an extension of our other interactive stories we have on our service like Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale and Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile.

2. The Stranger Things project is being published by Telltale at a later date, not on the Netflix service. It’s part of our marketing and title promotion efforts.

3. We don’t have any plans to get into gaming. There’s a broad spectrum of entertainment available today. Games have become increasingly cinematic, but we view this as interactive narrative storytelling on our service.

The Stranger Things project is being produced by Telltale Games and is separate from the experimental streaming service content.
